Difference between Trigona honey, Tualang honey and Manuka honey.
Trigona ^Kelulut Honey from Stingless Trigona Itama and Trigona Thoracica bees species native produced is been touted as superior to manuka honey. These stingless honey bees are smaller in sizes, which helps them to take up most of the rich nutrients, i.e., flower nectar available in the deepest portion of the blossom. Trigona Honey is purported to be low in sugar, highly sustainable, and strong antibacterial. Its GI is also said to be 3.5 times lower than that of manuka honey
Trigona honey consists of varieties of minerals, vitamins, and other health benefits as compared to related species of stinging bees, i.e., Apis Dorsata, it helps in the smooth running of the repair system in the human body due to the high concentration of propolis in the honey content. Malaysian TUALANG HONEY is collected from the combs of Asian rock bees (Apis dorsata), which build their hives high up in the tualang tree (Koompassia excelsa). Tualang honey is used commonly as a medicinal product and as food in Malaysia. However, little scientific information about its microbiological properties has been published to date. Thus, this study was designed to determine the antibacterial activity of tualang honey by comparing it with manuka honey, which has been extensively studied.
The antibacterial properties of tualang honey against 13 different bacterial species were determined by comparison to the commercially available manuka honey (Kordel's, UMF10+). Malaysian tualang honey was obtained from Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority (FAMA), Kedah, Malaysia, which was collected from Koompassia excelsa (tualang tree). Both types of honey were stored in the dark at room temperature. Initially, the honeys were subjected to sterilization by γ-irradiation at a dose of 25 kGy followed by a sterility test before they were subjected to the various antimicrobial tests. We used this radiation dose because it has been shown not to cause significant loss of antibacterial activity [16] and because no viable clostridial spores are present after the process .
